Spain Soccer Team Profile: A Soccer Worldcup Perspective

The abundance of skill in the Spain soccer team, is the main reason why their world soccer qualifiers went unchallenged as they prepared for South Africa Worldcup 2010.  It's a strange phenomenon though, that since the 1950 Soccer Worldcup where the Spain team came fourth, that they are yet to get past the quarter finals in a Soccer Worldcup tournament.

Leading up to the South Africa Worldcup event the Spanish soccer team has revealed flexibility, initiative and careful passing, winning 10 sequential matches with 28 goals and granting only 5.  However will this be sufficient to end decades of poor-performance in Soccer Worldcup?   In prior World Cup tournaments, La Roja has promised a lot, but provided little.  There is some talk however that the South Africa Worldcup 2010 will see this under-delivery transform, with the talent-abundant Spain soccer team rising to the challenge and receiving the distinguished prize at the finals.

The Champion Soccer Worldcup Team

Spain soccer team captain, Iker Casillas, has the safest pair of hands in world football today.  He is complimented by other team stars such as the powerful midfield duo, Xavi and Iniesta, the forceful strikers, David Villa (top goal scorer with 7 goals) and Fernando Torres, and Gerard Pique as the central defender.  These players undoubtedly have the ability to set the arena alight at the South Africa Worldcup 2010.

Spain Team's Coach

Vicente del Bosque was born in Salamance, Spain on December 23, 1950 and succeeded Luis Aragones as the Spain team coach following Aragones triumph atEuro 2008.  Del Bosque realizes he has big shoes to fill, nonetheless he's not one to shy away from a challenge.  As a midfielder himself, del Bosque won five La Liga titles and four Copa del Reys, ahead of starting his coaching career with Real Madrid.  Del Bosque has a coaching career many coaches would be proud of, which is why his release in 2003 came as a total surprise.

Considering an unsuccessful period with Besiktas, Del Bosque is now keen to prove his value and aims to lead the Spain team to the trophy at the South Africa Worldcup 2010.

Spain Team FIFA Soccer Worldcup Performance

  • The Spain side has taken part in 12 FIFA World Cup tournaments, without missing one since being absent at the 1974 Germany World Cup.
  • At the 1950 Brazil World Cup showcase, La Roja had their finest performance in Soccer Worldcup, finishing in fourth place.
  • The Spain soccer team won all ten of their world soccer qualifying matches for South Africa Worldcup 2010.
  • In the course of this campaign, Spain received 28 goals and contested just 5.
