England Soccer Team Analysis From a Soccer Worldcup Perspective

England's isolated Soccer Worldcup success was a home win in 1966. However this win is now a vague memory as the team neglected to oppose their trophy as presumed, in 1970. The fact that the squad were unable to qualify for three world soccer qualifying showpieces , has negatively impacted their results.

But, after a wave of poor performance under Sven-Goran Eriksson and Steve McClaren, there seems to be a fresh lift of energy in the team thanks to coach Fabio Capello. With a new beam of optimism for the Three Lions' squad, the team needs to recover their image. With their recent display of confidence and the fact that the weather conditions during the South Africa Worldcup 2010 will be in their favor, England without doubt stand a chance of at least obtaining a semi-final standing.

The Key Soccer Worldcup Players

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has revealed vast devotion and is the lead goal scorer having scored 9 goals in 9 matches. Contributing goal scorers are midfielders Steven Gerrard (3) and Frank Lampard (4). Front-man Peter Crouch is not to be forgotten with his four strikes in an equal amount of games and Tottenham's Jermain Defoe demonstrating his talent with 3 goals in only 135 minutes of play. John Terry and Frank Lampard (10) have had the most Soccer Worldcup shows of the Three Lions' soccer team.

England's Leadership

Fabio Capello was born on June 18, 1946 in San Canzian d'Isonzo, Italy and has acquired numerous honors including multiple Serie A and La Liga titles. As a player for Italy, Capello's greatest game was ironically in 1973 against England at Wembley.
Acknowledged for his stickler style, Capello has had a massive impression on the England soccer team and has developed them from a situation of despair to one of hopefulness as they enter the South Africa Worldcup 2010 as genuine candidates.

England FIFA Soccer Worldcup Attainments

  • England's appearance to Soccer Worldcup was in 1950 in Brazil and since then they have played in 11 global showpieces. Their first and only championship was on home soil in 1966.
  • On October 8, 2005, England started a series of ten sequential victories in FIFA World Soccer qualifiers. Unfortunately though, this came to an rapid end on October 10, 2009 when they were defeated 1-0 by Ukraine.
